Our Experience: Le Maitai Bora Bora is everything you'd expect from a top-notch Bora Bora resort, without the exorbitant price tag. The service is remarkably good, even among a series of resorts known for their customer service. The staff knows how to make all their guests feel like royalty during their luxury stay.
The first notable difference about this resort happens the moment your plane lands in Bora Bora. A personalized greeter is sent to meet you. Ours spoke perfect english and was a perfect gentleman. He was knowledgeable about the region and Le Maitai resort.
The restaurants are tasty, but unfortunately there are only two of them, one of which is only open for dinnertime. So really, most of the time, only one restaurant is open, and it only serves French Polynesian Fusion. It's a style my wife and I happen to love, but if you don't care for it, there isn't much you can do about it, except travelling further to a hotel not located on the resort.
A noteworthy service that no other resort we've come across has is an on-site grocery store, for those that aren't into the restaurants, or those that get the urge to cook up a romantic dinner for their spouse one night.
The on-site activities are enjoyable and professionally run. The resort is well-priced, as are all the extras.
> The Bottom Line: Amazing value, easily in our top 3 favorite resorts. Absolutely recommended by our staff and by our users! Writer: Henry Bargs, 2008.

Review: Service was excellent: everyone was always friendly and went the extra mile for special requests.
Excursions were excellent: prompt, exceeded my expectations. The shark feeding is a definite must. Our captain, Tavi, was dressed in traditional clothes and prepared an delicious lunch.
Facilities are excellent. Very clean and well maintained. Room was well layed out. Mini frig was convenient. Balcony was a nice size and private. Two great restaurants on-site. One internet connected PC (requires local phone card) which was always available when I needed it.
Location is good: conveniently located near grocery store for those who like the freedom to eat other than restaurant food. Stayed at an air conditioned, ocean view room. Air conditioning was convenient. Room was up on the hill, which made for a nice hike, beautiful views of the lagoon and nearby motu. However, street noise was occasionally loud but easily silenced by simply closing the sliders.
Extras: I had read an earlier review about not having a greeter when you land at the airport, so I was pleasantly surprised when there was a friendly and informative greeter from Le MaiTai at the airport. Refreshing welcoming drink upon arrival. Necklaces and warmth upon departure. The free water taxi takes you to a lovely motu.
Overall - I highly recommend Le MaiTai. |

Review: We've stayed at Le Maitai twice, each time for a week. We stayed in one of the garden rooms, second floor (least expesnive), and loved the location. I guess the ants/insects are a little less prevelent on the top floor (we don't mind geckos). We loved the location of the resort, with the pretty good beach snorkeling, the fantastic motu snorkeling accessible by free kayak, proximity to markets and fairly priced restaraunts (La Bounty for dinner and Hotel Matira for lunch/snack), and Matira Beach a short walk away.
The staff were very polite, though at times a bit inconsistent regarding what is/isn't provided (no big deal). The restaraunt at the hotel was fairly good, but most of the time we ate away from the hotel. I agree with all of the recommendations to book the shark feeding/picnic/island tour. It's an all-day excursion, you get a complete tour of the island, the lunch is really good, and the time on the motu looking at the main island can't last long enough. I also HIGHLY recommend the water taxi, which can take you to the motu used by the shark feeding excursions for their picnics. They will drop you off and pick you up when you tell them to. Bring some food, drinks, cameras, snorkel gear, and play Robinson Crusoe for a day.
There are a few less expensive places to stay on Bora Bora, and there are quite a few more expensive ones, but for us this is the most for the money on Bora Bora. |
